Hostess ads in Pink Panther-The Inspector comics

Hostess products from the Continental Baking Company placed ads in Bronze Age comics from various publishers, featuring comic/cartoon characters.

Comic Run[]

In the Pink Panther comics the run of Hostess Ads was from issue 25 in 1975 until issue 76 in 1980. In The Inspector comics the ads appeared starting in issue #4, in 1975, and ran through the end with issue #19, in 1978.

The distribution issues that made issues 76 and 77 scarce probably also made it so that Continental Baking didn't want to spend the money to advertise with Western Publishing again after that.

Post Pink Panther/Western Publishing ads[]

After the split between Western Publishing and Hostess in 1980, Hostess comic ads featuring DC, Marvel, Harvey and Archie characters continued to appear in comics from those publishers in 1981 and 1982.

Comic Franchises[]

Franchises featured in Hostess comic ads include Looney Tunes (Western Publishing), DC Comics, Marvel Comics, Harvey Comics, Archie Comics.

In the pages of Pink Panther comics, and possibly all Western Publishing comics, only Looney Tunes, Marvel and Harvey characters appear. The Hostess ads featuring DC Comics characters or Archie Comics characters do not appear in the pages of the Pink Panther comics.

Wonder Bread[]

Wonder Bread was also made by the Continental Baking Company. In the 70s loafs of bread came with Trading Cards for Close Encounters, Star Wars, Hanna Barbera, Looney Tunes, DC Comics and more. Sometimes there were ads.
