Synopsis[]
The Pink Panther sneaks into a house to stay the night and has to hide from its drunk owner.
Plot[]
Late at night, out on the streets and tired, the Pink Panther saw how late it was and decided to find a place to sleep. Discovering a flop house, he entered, hoping to gain admittance, only to be thrown out and the door shut, despite his protests about there being a 'Welcome' mat in front of the door.
Trudging the streets, the Panther discovered a key, which he was about to throw in disgust before realizing it was for the door of a nearby house. Seeing the keyhole was missing, the Panther used his keyhole-on-a-chain to open the door and get in. Settling on the bed, the Panther removed his socks (which resembled his feet) before sneaking behind a privacy screen to remove the rest of his garments (also resembling his fur) and slipping into the shower with an umbrella. After the shower water somehow poured through underneath the umbrella, the Panther used a towel to dry off, only for the shower to kick in again, soaking his fur for a second time.
The Panther then moved onto the bathroom mirror, where he used shaving cream and a razor to shave off his whiskers (them somehow coming back a moment later). He then attempted to brush his teeth, but the electric toothbrush he used went wild throughout his body, forcing him to stop it with a bathbrush, giving it one more swat when it twitched.
The Panther then put out the bedroom light and slipped into the bed. At that moment, the house's owner, a drunkard who was coming home from a wild party, walked up to the front door. In his drunken state, the man dropped his key ring, causing all his keys to scatter on his sidewalk. Unable to figure out which was his house key, he attempted to knock his door down with the potted fern beside it. Unaware that the door was unlocked thanks to the Panther, the man crashed through the front door and smashed into something offscreen, before inconspicuously putting the fern back outside.
Walking into his bedroom, the drunk man turned on the bedroom light as he got ready for bed. Awoken by the light, the Panther turned the light back off before going back to bed, causing the man, who had just changed into his pajamas, to crash into the lamp, surprising the Panther. Unable to see where the noise came from, the Panther merely shrugged before going back to sleep. Having gotten the lampshade on his head, the man turned the light on again in order to remove it, much to the Panther's annoyance. In his aggravation, he pulled the lamp's chain too hard, breaking it off, leading him to blow it out like a candle before resuming sleep. The drunk man then walked past again, bumping into the lamp before relighting it and walking on. Finally having his fill of the seemingly stubborn light, the Panther unscrewed the light-bulb and stuck it in a pot under a sunflower, only for the light to shine through its bud, leading him to turn the pot upside down, and when the light shined through a hole in the bottom, he placed a cork in the hole, finally putting out the light and enabling him to go back to sleep.
At that moment, the drunk man finally slipped into bed to get some sleep. Unfortunately, when he saw the Panther's pink feet, he mistook them for his own and believed he was freezing, leading him to fill up a hot water bottle. When the bottle proved to be too hot for him to hold, he used a stick to carry it to his bed and slide it under the covers. Unfortunately, the sudden hot sensation caused the Panther to jump out of bed, hopping. Thinking he was seeing things, the man quickly dialed his AA sponsor for help.
When his sponsor arrived, the man explained how he saw the Panther in his bed. Smelling alcohol on his breath, the sponsor scolded him for not sticking to the program and drinking devil's rum. The man swore off drinking alcohol ever again. The pair then went around the house to pick up the man's hidden alcohol stash: in his light fixture, his coffee pot, and even a bible before tossing the load into the trash can.
The sponsor told the man he was proud of him, while the man felt better. The pair celebrated with a glass of milk. Unfortunately, at that moment, the Panther walked by, looking for another place to sleep. Realizing that it wasn't a hallucination, the two men dashed off after the garbage truck that had picked up the alcohol bottles. As the truck went down the street, the men desperately dashed after it to get the bottles back. The cartoon ends with the Panther lounging on the words 'The End', with the 'T' acting like a lamp, which the Panther reached up and turned off.
