Gold Key - The Inspector 19 - Cover

The Inspector is a comic series from Western Publishing (Gold Key/Whitman) that was a spin-off of The Pink Panther comic from Western Publishing (Gold Key/Whitman).

The Inspector in the Pink Panther Comics[]

The first Inspector comic story, Sea? Si', Sir!, was in the first issue of The Pink Panther. The Inspector continued to have stories in the Pink Panther comic for a while. Generally it was 3 Pink Panther stories and 1 Inspector story per issue.

The Inspector was also generally featured on the cover of the comics with The Pink Panther. The cover title, different than the legal indicia title, was The Pink Panther and The Inspector from issue #1 through issue #30. (Except issue #3.) Issue #1 and issues #4 feature Big Nose instead of The Inspector. Issue #3 is just the Pink Panther without either Big Nose or the Inspector.

The Inspector continued to be on the cover of The Pink Panther through issue #40. Then appeared on the covers for 44, 45, 46, 48, 51, 52, 54, 55, 56, 58, 63, 64, and lastly 72. With the cover, and the whole issue of #72 being a reprint to the #5 comic issue.

Some time after the Inspector comic was cancelled, the Inspector stopped showing up in new stories in the Pink Panther comic.

The Inspector Comics[]

Eventually The Inspector got a spin-off comic. The new Inspector comic generally featured 3 Inspector stories and 1 Pink Panther story. The series ran 19 issues from July 1974 until February 1978.
